During this chunk of the Kite Runner, there is an annual kite running tournamnet that is going on, and Hassan and Amir participate in it. They enter this contest and practice almost every day, but because Amir feels that Baba likes Hassan more than he likes Amir, Amir feels extremely eager to win so that Baba will notice him. As the boys continue to practice, they both realize that Hassan is very good at this and has a definite eye of where the kite will land. On the day of the kiting tournament, Amir wins the first half of the kiting tournament, and Hassan wins the second half. As the boys try to celebrate their victory, they are confronted by Assef, the "neighborhood bulley". Assef with two other boys comes and demand that Amir and Hassan give up their kites. The two boys refuse, and Assef ends up raping Hassan in front of Amir and his other friends. Amir, instead of turning to his pal and helping him, runs away with no attempt of helping Hassan. This event follows Amir all the days of his life and is torn up about.
QUESTION: IF YOU WERE AMIR, WOULD YOU HAVE HELPED HASSAN, OR RAN AWAY JUST LIKE HE DID?

If i was Amir i would have stayed and helped Hassan because Hassan has stood up for Amir numerous time in the past. Amir and the guys that raped Hassamn were the same race and since Amir comes from a respected family they probably would have left Hassan alone. Amir shouldn't have been a coward.
