Robert Greenes 2007 article, A Homeless Breakthrough?, from the LA Times, describes Los Angeles' plan to get the top 50 most vunerable homeless people off of skid row in downtown LA and into homes where the would recieve shelter and heath care. This is part of Los Angeles' Project 50 which was imported from NYC's Common Ground Oorganization which got chronically homeless people off of Manhattan's streets and into housing.

The project was started when 25 county workers woke and interviewed homeless people on skidrow. After the workers had recieved their information, they were able to create a "list" of the homeless on skid row. After that, the project took off. Many city officials such as Mayor Antonio Villarigosa has already designating $100 million for housing the homeless. The county of LA will also put "an equal amount for supportive services in those new homes".

Project 50 will help get Los Angeles streets clear of homeless people and they will place themin shelters. Although this is a fantastic plan, getting 50 people of the streets is not enough. In the future we need to strive to get as many people as possuble off Los Angeles' streets and into shelters.

Tone: Optimistic
Question: If the plan goes well in CA, should other states adopt the plan?
